Free flight is alive & well in Sonoma County California!

A new blog for Sonoma County Flyers!

Ever since the dissolution of the Marin Aero Club, I was looking for a site suitable for free flight models, after we lost our flying site at St. Vincent's school in Marinwood.

I found there are clubs with nice flying sites in Petaluma and Forestville, but they both have fees for membership and field maintenance, as well as requiring AMA membership.

Then I heard that a local middle school was allowing R/C flying on wknds & holidays, when school is not in session.

It's the Lawrence E. Jones Middle School at 5154  Snyder Ln., in Rohnert Park CA.

I've tried flying several of my stick & tissue models there, and there seems to be adequate run-off area for freeflight models (with dethermalizer).

I am currently building two models for CO2 power. The Citabria Super Decathalon from the Czech kit maker Hacker. And the Piper Cub from Herr Engineering. Both are Gasparin powered.
